PROFILE
Ms. Lida Sara Nouraie works exclusively in the field of criminal and penal law. Through the years, Ms. Nouraie has gained important experience before all courts in relation to criminal and penal accusations of various types.
In 2021, the Quebec Bar named her Avocate Émérite (Ad.E.). She also has received recognition on multiple occasions from Lexpert, the Quebec Criminal Defence Lawyers Association (AQAAD), the Montreal Criminal Defence lawyers Association (AADM), the Young Bar Association of Montreal (YBAM) and the Young Chamber of Commerce of Montreal.
Over the last few years years, Ms. Nouraie has appeared 10 times before the Supreme Court of Canada. She has also been deeply involved in mega-trials and crimes against the person files (including homicides and sexual assaults).
Mrs. Nouraie was also the president of the Montreal Criminal Defence Lawyers Association (AADM) between 2019 and 2021.
For several years, she acted as legal counsel for the Elizabeth Fry Society of Quebec; a non-profit organization providing assistance to women in need who are already detained, or who face criminal charges. Since the beginning of her mandate, Ms. Nouraie intervened on hundreds of occasions to inform women of their rights in prison, and their civil rights in general.
Ms. Nouraie is a lecturer at the University of Quebec in Montreal, and teaches a course where students work on cases of wrongful convictions, mainly in murder cases. She regularly teaches other courses and often acts as a coach for the interuniversity George A. Gale moot competition.
She is also the president of Project Innocence Quebec, a non-profit organization helping people having been wrongfully convicted.
